Current blood count to date (11/4/07)... Jeff has received 27 units of platelets and 28 units of whole blood. One unit of platelets is generally made up of 4 different people's donations.

At this point, Jeff is NOT in need of blood products. His blood counts are recovering very well.  His doctor thought he would only need about 8 - 10 units during and after the transplant, and he received 11. But you can always give - lots of people need it!

Just an FYI - After the transplant, once the donor cells engraft, Jeff's blood type will become A+ (the donor's type).  Hey, that's also Jeff's mom's blood type! Cool!

To donate blood DIRECTLY to Jeff:
1 - Must be O+ or O- blood type.  Otherwise, you can donate a replacement unit in Jeff's name.

2 - Must be listed on his Directed Donor list.  Contact Kim at (813) 892-2915 to be listed.

3 - Must go to the Florida Blood Center at fletcher Ave and 53rd Street in Tampa to donate.  You can make an appointment to donate blood. Alert them you are giving a DIRECTED DONATION for Jeff Wagner.

Their hours are: Monday-Thursday 8 am - 7 pm and Friday 8 am - 5 pm. They are open on Saturday and Sunday mornings, but may not take directed donations those days.

Any directed donation must be drawn at least three days prior to the intended use and can be held up to 28 days for Jeff's use.  Any donation not used by Jeff within 3 days of expiration will be released to others. So if Jeff doesn't need it, the blood will still be used for another patient.
